1. Social

We are investing in technology, equipment and systems. However, our people are the priority.

We never compromise health and safety in the workplace. Our effective safety processes are backed up by ongoing training and development, and our careful recruitment process ensures all new employees are quickly up to speed with our attention to detail.

Space always ensures all employees are treated and valued equally, and we actively promote fairness, inclusion and respect. This creates an environment where the open communication of ideas and issues is encouraged. With this approach, we are able to invest in tomorrow's leaders today.

Space aspires go beyond merely minimising harm on the environment to working with our customers and supply chain to provide environmental enhancement and sustainable solutions.

Space implements and maintains an environmental management system which complies with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 in order to define, measure and control processes and activities that are employed in the execution of the business.

We aim to continually improve the environmental performance of all our activities by proactively developing solutions to minimise environmental impacts during the delivery and life-cycle of contracts.

Space IS: Supportive

Today’s community of temporarily displaced Ukrainians are striving to move beyond their refugee status and fully assimilate into the communities around them.

We are working to help make that happen.

Waste not, want not

Resource efficiency at Space

Space encourages recycling and energy conservation measures at all of its locations.

Recycling includes office supplies and business waste. Conservation measures include upgrading water, lighting, and power systems, and investing in equipment to reduce energy use in our operations.

Carbon footprint tracking

In 2022, Space launched a program to track and analyse our carbon footprint.
With detailed breakdowns of energy usage, fuel consumption tracking, source type and carbon dioxide equivalency, we can develop a clear picture of our carbon footprint and target specific opportunities for improvement and efficiency

Tree planting initiatives

Space recognises the need to protect the natural environment. Keeping our environment clean and unpolluted is a benefit to all.

Scientists have found planting trees to be the most efficient way to tackle the climate crisis; the trees store pollutants such as carbon and release oxygen into the atmosphere. We like to think our carbon footprint is as small as possible. And the carbon which we do emit, we off-set through tree-planting programmes through Oblong Trees, more than covering our carbon footprint. Space is a Carbon Positive Business.

Road to Zero

Space is supportive of the UK government's Road to Zero strategies with the ultimate goal of completely phasing out petrol and diesel sales, and having entirely electric roads by 2040. As of February 2023, 46% of the Space fleet is composed of electric vehicles and we are aiming to increase this number within the next 24 months.

We're passionate about leaving the planet in a better condition for future generations, and small changes like this will have a huge impact on our future.

Sustainable supply chain

Space is now fully enrolled as a partner of the Sustainability Supply Chain School. The Sustainability Supply Chain School is a dedicated construction resource that is currently supported and utilised by more than 160 organisations throughout the UK. These organisations, like Space, are working to improve their sustainability efforts and engage their supply chain.

With our focus on Net Zero, Space aims to improve our reporting capabilities for BREEAM and other sustainable schemes, in addition to expanding skill sets for PQQ and tender requirements. The Sustainability Supply Chain School has been and will continue to be invaluable in our efforts to deliver on all these requirements.
